Supporting Nonprofits, One Bit at a Time: A Recap of Bits of Good's Initiatives
See what our teams accomplished last semester.
Motherhood Beyond Bars
Motherhood Beyond Bars (MBB) connects caretakers with infants born to women in Georgia prisons and provides caretakers with resources and support.
The project, consisting of both a mobile app platform for caretakers and a website portal for MBB administrators, helped streamline MBB’s onboarding process and allowed MBB administrators to easily access and update information on the caretakers. With the addition of the Caretaker Resources tab, caretakers are provided with the resources they need to succeed, including an FAQ page with links to helpful articles.
The impact of Motherhood Beyond Bars has been significant for incarcerated mothers and their families. Similarly, the impact of Bits of Good has been significant for MBB: caretakers are now able to intuitively and quickly find the resources they need and update their profiles, and MBB administrators are able to keep track of orders and contact caretakers.
Southface Energy Institute
Southface Energy Institute is a non-profit organization based in Atlanta that is dedicated to promoting sustainable homes, workplaces, and communities through education, advocacy, and technical assistance.
The nonprofit has a program dedicated to training designers, engineers, and construction teams on a collection of high-performance building standards for construction.
Bits of Good partnered with Southface Energy Institute to help build a more accessible digital library of technical standards to make projects more manageable for designers, engineers, construction teams, and construction teams.
The partnership between Bits of Good and Southface Energy Institute is an example of how Georgia Tech students are leveraging their skills to support non-profit organizations. With the addition of the digital library, Southface Energy Institute is equipped to achieve its mission of promoting sustainable and equitable communities.
Healing4Heroes
Healing4Heroes provides service dogs to veterans with PTSD and traumatic brain injury at no cost; the nonprofit has a training program dedicated to helping local rescues become ADA-compliant service dogs.
Bits of Good has been working with founder Piper Hill to develop a mobile application for H4H administrators to upload information and send out announcements on the app to notify clients about upcoming events.
Most importantly, users are able to easily log training hours and important details, including total hours, skills displayed and worked on, video logs, and any additional information to keep track of the dog’s progress. Users can then refer to these logs to plan the following training sessions.
Georgia CORE
Georgia CORE aims to improve cancer care for Georgians in rural, urban, and suburban communities across the state.
Last semester, the Bits of Good team worked on a user-friendly navigation assistant. A section called "Are you looking for..." features several cards with relevant links and information, allowing users to quickly find the information they are searching for when navigating the nonprofit’s website, decreasing the bounce rate, increasing the overall satisfaction rating, and helping people get the care and resources they need.
With the new changes to the website, administrators can spend less time replying to emails and more time advancing the nonprofit’s mission. But wait, there’s more! The BoG team also revamped the admin portal with a new navigation bar and multiple drop-down menus.
Helping Mamas
Helping Mamas aims to distribute essential baby items — from diapers and wipes to car seats and cribs — to nearly 60,000 children a year.
Bits of Good helped the nonprofit streamline the volunteer recruitment process by developing a volunteer management system, successfully increasing the nonprofit’s volunteer retention rate, relieving administrative burdens by automatically sending confirmation emails, event updates, and follow-up emails, and helping the administrators track volunteer participation.
