What's Happened So Far at BoG
The Fall 2022 semester here at Bits of Good has been one for the books! We've officially passed the halfway point in the semester and the projects are starting to come together as we wrap up Sprint 3. So far we've had an incredible Launch Party featuring our guest speaker Dr. Ellen Zegura, as well as special nonprofit partner guests from Georgia Core, Healing for Heroes, and more! Additionally, we had a blast at our liftoff events as we worked our brains at trivia, sweetened up our resumes and taste buds at the ice cream social, hiked with alumni, or enjoyed a good old-fashioned picnic. We are excited to see the amazing products that our project teams create this semester and we're eager to see what's in store as Demo Day is right around the corner!
Project Spotlight
Motherhood Beyond Bars
When babies are born to women in the Georgia prison system, the mother is allotted a 48-hour stay in the hospital. After these 48 hours, the mother is returned to prison and a chosen caretaker will then come to the hospital to pick up the baby and bring it home. Motherhood Beyond Bars works with these caretakers to provide them with the resources and supplies they need, but lacks a platform for these caretakers to interact with. By developing a mobile caretaker-facing app, Bits of Good is helping Motherhood Beyond Bars improve their communication with the caretakers. In turn, Bits of Good will be directly impacting the children, caretakers, mothers, and families affected by children born to incarcerated mothers.
Helping Mamas
Helping Mamas is a nonprofit baby supply bank in Georgia. They collect and distribute essential baby items (diapers, wipes, car seats, cribs, pack and plays, and more) to families with children up to age 12. Bits of Good is building a volunteer management system to streamline the process for both volunteer administrators (admins) and volunteers to help increase the volunteer retention rate as Helping Mamas grows into a larger organization. This product will directly affect how successful the client is at providing target families the supplies they need by making sure all parties involved are organized and committed.Â
