Counting Down: Liftoff with Bits of Good
Learn more about Bits of Good Liftoff this Fall 2023 semester!
Bits of Good Liftoff is a private launch week where new and current members are welcomed to gather and participate in planned activities. There are presentations from executive members and directors where more about the organization is revealed, and this liftoff, there was an ice cream social, a resume review, a hike (which was unfortunately cancelled) and Paper&Clay social.
Bits of Good overall is a large organization that houses good relations with nonprofits and utilizes technology to code real-world applications for social good. We are inspired individuals organized into project teams of diverse skill sets. There are multiple roles (developers, project managers, directors, designers, team members) that work together to create mobile applications to support nonprofit organizations.
Post-liftoff, we interviewed our current members and directors to see what their experiences were like!
Isabella Piboolnuruk, the Associate Director of Design, helps the Director of Design with design management. Piboolnuruk's role includes checking on designer project progress and planning design workshops. She's looking foward to getting to meet new people, as well as helping the designers at BoG reach their goals for this semester. For design, their liftoff event was a relaxing hangout at Paper & Clay, and Piboolnuruk got to paint pottery with members and just get to know one another!
Speaking of Design, Zarya Ajasin, Director of Design, helps lead the design department by providing support and resources to the amazing designers we have onboard this semester. Ajasin is very excited to meet more boggers through donut dates and volunteering socials!
"Liftoff was such an exciting moment in the semester, kicking off the amazing work we're doing with nonprofits by meeting the founders and having all the bog members in one room...it's just electric!" -Zarya Ajasin
Allison Kwan, the Associate Director of Product, helps oversee product managers and ensure that they are well equiped with all the resources they need to successfully lead a team and ship an effective and robust product to a nonprofit client. Kwan is looking forward to meeting all the new members in BoG, as well as implementing new initiatives into the product department. Her group held the Product Ice Cream Social, which was enjoyable and another means to meet new faces!
Lastly, Samrat Sahoo, the Director of Engineering, has experienced multiple Liftoffs! Sahoo's role in BoG includes overseeing engineering managers, engineering operations, and the developer bootcamp! Upon asking what he is looking forward to this semester, two responses came to mind. First, Sahoo is particularly excited for the BoG Infra team, which is a new engineering focused team with a mission to accelerate developer productivity and push the limits of engineering. Up until this point, Bits of Good has primarily been "just a web dev club" but Infra team aims to change that by enabling us to take on more complex but exciting projects in the long term. This team is going to allow BoG engineers to also contribute to open source softwares with the engineering infrastructure they have made. Second, Sahoo is incredibly excited about the future of engineering operations! The engineering operations team led by Reeda and Anisha has more autonomy this semester, and this helps expand the goals and achievements of the engineering team.
Engineering's liftoff event was a resume review, which really helped with recruiting season at this time of year. The event was a major success with large turnout, bringing career success and BoG bonding into one.
Bits of Good is continually growing, and as the organization expands, so does its team parts. Liftoff is one of those traditions that continues to bond its members and create new experiences!
